It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself.
I am Dr. Muhammad Wasif Baig, currently serving as Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Nephrology at University Medical and Dental College, Madina Teaching Hospital, Faisalabad, Pakistan. I am an active member of the Pakistan Society of Nephrology.
I graduated from King Edward Medical University, Lahore, and completed my training in Nephrology at the National Institute of Kidney Diseases (NIKD), Shaikh Zayed Hospital (SZH), Lahore. In 2015, I earned my Fellowship of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (FCPS) in Nephrology.
For the past decade, I have been leading the Nephrology Department at Madina Teaching Hospital, where we are dedicated to providing quality kidney care to patients from low-income backgrounds. Our services include the management of critically ill patients, emergency admissions, outpatient and inpatient dialysis, and specialized procedures such as dialysis catheter insertions and renal biopsies. In addition, I actively participate in outpatient care, ensuring continuity of treatment for our patients.
My areas of special interest include public awareness on kidney disorders, glomerular diseases, acute kidney injury, and dialysis management. Alongside clinical responsibilities, I am deeply involved in teaching and training undergraduate and postgraduate students in Nephrology and Dialysis. I deliver lectures, conduct bedside teaching rounds, and mentor future nephrologists.
The burden of kidney disease in Pakistan is rising at an alarming rate. There is an urgent need to raise public awareness to prevent many of these devastating yet avoidable conditions. I chose this specialty because kidney patients require specialized, compassionate care—something that is often lacking due to limited awareness and inadequate management. Unfortunately, many patients are still being treated by unqualified practitioners, leading to poor outcomes and significant financial strain for families. My mission is to help bridge this gap through education, early diagnosis, and ethical medical practice.
